Donate to Orthopaedic Surgery Research, Patient Care and Education

One in three individuals in the United States suffers from pain or limited range of motion in the bones, joints, muscles or surrounding structures. Even more troubling, most people over the age of 75 have arthritis or another form of musculoskeletal disorder. Orthopaedic surgeons at Northwestern Medicine make it their life’s work to help patients of all ages who struggle with this type of pain. They focus specifically on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in the bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles and treat conditions such as joint replacement, bone fractures, spinal deformity and sports juries. When you make a donation to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, you will ensure that Northwestern Medicine continues to retain some of the best orthopaedic surgeons in Illinois on its staff.

Northwestern Medicine provides leading-edge care for a plethora of orthopaedic conditions and procedures, including the following:

Herniated (ruptured) disks: This occurs when the jelly-like nucleus at the center of a disk in the spine ruptures and the fragments begin to push on surrounding nerve roots causing pain, weakness, or numbness.

Knee replacement surgery: This is a surgical procedure that resurfaces a knee that has been damaged by arthritis. The weight-bearing surface of the knee is replaced with prosthetic joint hardware.

Osteoporosis: This disease weakens the bones and makes them more susceptible to breaks and fractures. It affects women more than men and progresses over time.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: This chronic disease causes severe inflammation or deformities in the joints, making mobility difficult.

Kyphosis: This is a type of spinal deformity which causes a rounding or hunching of the back.

Regardless of which type, when you make a donation to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, you will help orthopaedic surgeons on staff stay on the leading edge of treatment for numerous conditions.
