Donate to Neuromuscular Disorders Research, Patient Care and Education
Neuromuscular disorders are diseases that affect the nerves controlling the voluntary muscles. There are thousands of people who suffer from preventable and treatable neuromuscular disorders. Northwestern Memorial Foundation strives to help those who suffer from these disorders to receive the treatment needed and make the necessary lifestyle changes to combat their symptoms. With your donation, you can help treat and prevent a multitude of diseases, such as:
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Myasthenia Gravis
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Multiple sclerosis
- Muscular dystrophy
- Spinal muscular atrophy
Symptoms vary from patient to patient as each condition yields different issues. Patients may suffer from things like pain or weakness, loss of muscle control, balance problems, difficulty breathing, blurry vision, and issues with blood pressure, heart rate, digestion, urination and weight loss (when neuropathy affects the autonomic nervous system). They live with these symptoms on a consistent basis, which makes everyday activities very difficult for anyone with a neuromuscular disorder.
